New Orleans Saints football is thriving in the Big Easy and has revitalized the city with civic pride. The fan support was unbelievable in '09 as the New Orleans Saints went 14-2 during the regular season and secured home field advantage in the postseason. After a very tough game against the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship game it was off to Miami to play the Indianapolis Colts. As an underdog the Saints did the impossible and won the Super Bowl. For those fans that endured years of losing in the 70's it was a moment that one would never have dreamed of. The high powered offense is led by Pro Bowler Drew Brees. As a 2nd round pick from Purdue, Brees started his career in San Diego and played excellent before injuring his throwing shoulder. Remarkably he has come back from the devastating injury to become one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Reggie Bush has now gone to Miami and the signing of Darren Sproles should provide the offense with the same explosiveness needed out of a situational back. With the drafting of Heisman Trophy Winner Mark Ingram from Alabama the Saints will feature 2 backs as Pierre Thomas will also figure into the mix. Chris Ivory enters the season injured so he may not be able to get into the rotation until mid-season. Coach Sean Payton is a Bill Parcells disciple and offensive genius. For years the organization has been thought of as an afterthought but with Payton they have become a force to be reckoned with. 1st round pick Cameron Jordan was drafted to add depth and pass rushing to the defensive line. Free agent pick up Aubrayo Franklin signed a one year deal as is a plugger in the middle as a defensive tackle. Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams uses a blitz heavy package to put pressure on quarterbacks. They play a bend but don't break scheme. The secondary is a ball hawk unit that is led by Jabari Greer and Malcolm Jenkins. The defensive line did not get a tremendous amount of pressure in the 2010 season and subsequently the amount of turnovers produced went down from '09. The city of New Orleans will never be the same considering the success of this once losing franchise. With the Atlanta Falcons winning the division last year and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers winning 10 games the AFC South is one of the best divisions in the NFL. The Falcons and Saints figure to be the clubs to contend for the division crown. Purchase New Orleans Saints tickets for the 2011 season for a great NFL experience.
